Hillside Homeschool Curriculum Resources

When it comes to homeschool curriculum the choices seem endless and overwhelming. We wanted to create a quick resource for families to share what we are using in our class here at Hillside. We hope this will serve as a resource for your family and homeschool.

Morning Time and Memory Work

We love the idea of a morning “circle time” both in class and in our homes. Our morning routines are heavily focused on scripture and memory work. Is there really a better way to start the day?!

Our core morning time curriculum comes from a wonderful resource, The Brighter Day Press. You can check out their beautiful website and resources here. For this school year, we are using, Morning Time Volume 1. It’s a complete guide for morning time prayers, hymns, scripture and catechism. In addition to the memory work, you will find enrichment content such as poetry, picture study, composers and artists, as well as options for family read-alouds.

If you are looking for an easy way to add in morning time at home and want to follow along with what we are doing in class, we highly recommend.

Supplemental Morning Time Books

In class, we will be reading from The Gospel Story Bible and The Ology. We will also be using the New City Catechism.

The Gospel Story Bible will be our main resource for our Bible time portion. We will complete a selected story and discuss what it means and how it points to Jesus. We love this resource for the excellent discussion questions at the end of each story. Our own kids love it and gain knowledge of the entire Bible and how the Old and New Testaments collectively point to salvation through Jesus.

The Ology is truly a beautiful book inside and out. It’s exactly as it sounds, it’s theology for our students. We love it because it takes key components of our faith and explains it in detail. We will be looking at how God is infinite, explaining the Trinity and many other theological concepts that will create a solid foundation for understanding scripture as our kids grow and mature.

A favorite in our household and a key part of our memory work here at Hillside is The New City Catechism. Students will be memorizing a catechism each month. These simple question and answer statements lay the groundwork for truth in a culture that blurs the lines. Truly a great way to instill biblical knowledge in the hearts and minds of our children and students.

Hillside Core Curriculum

The basis for all our lessons come from the amazing unit studies created by Gather Round. Gather Round was created by a homeschooling mom of five who was tired of teaching different lessons to all her kiddos. She created a multi-subject curriculum that could be used for all grades. As you may already know, we have chosen to complete a tour around the world and will be using the North America, South America and Africa unit studies this year.

We will be teaching out of the teacher’s guide for each class. If you would like to pursue additional lessons at home that coordinate with our class feel free to check out the student workbooks on their website.

We hope these resources allow an insight into what we will be using in our class now and in the future. All of these resources are being used in our homes as well. We hope this can serve as an inspiration and a guide to make your life a little bit easier. Homeschooling isn’t easy but it sure is a beautiful life, especially when you can share it with others.

Thank you for being part of our community! We pray blessings over you and your family.
